Carpet Buying Guide: What to Decide Before You Order

Quick answer: Decide the room’s job first (stairs, pets, rental, quiet bedroom), then pick fibre and pile to match. Get a measured quote with underlay included, and choose colours in your own light — not under showroom fluorescents.

1. Start with the room, not the colour

Halls and stairs need dense, hard-wearing carpet. Bedrooms can go softer. Kitchens and wet rooms usually want vinyl or LVT, not carpet. If you have dogs or cats, read best carpets for pets before you fall for a pale plain saxony.

2. Fibre: wool, synthetic, or natural

Wool feels resilient and natural but costs more and needs moth awareness. Synthetics (polypropylene, solution-dyed nylon) are usually easier to clean and better for rentals. 3. Pile type matters more than people think
