1. Natural Fibers: Wool is the original sustainable fiber. It grows back every year, is biodegradable, and lasts a long time. Sisal, Seagrass, and Coir are also excellent renewable options that use minimal chemicals.
2. Recycled Synthetics: Tech has moved on. We now stock carpets made from 100% recycled plastics (fishing nets recovered from the ocean, or PET bottles). They feel incredibly soft but clean up the planet. Look for ranges like 'Sedna'.
3. Recyclable Backing: The hardest part of a carpet to recycle is the glue/latex backing. New ranges are using 'fleece' backings made from recycled bottles that can be melted down and recycled again at the end of their life.
