How Much Carpet Do I Need?

Getting a rough idea of how much carpet you need helps you budget and compare quotes. You don't need millimetre-perfect measurements – we always double check before ordering – but a ballpark figure is useful.

For simple rectangular rooms, measure the maximum width and length in metres and round each measurement up to the nearest 10cm (0.1m). Multiply width by length to get the approximate square metres.

Hall, stairs and landing are more complex, because we allow extra for winders, overhang and pattern matching. As a rule of thumb, stairs and landing together are often between 12–18m² depending on the layout.
